We almost missed it, but a voice called out to us: “Yo, you guys should take a look down here!”

It was Steven Hammond, who showed us a massive underground barbershop, complete with bright lights, mirrors, and chairs with barbers waiting for clients.

It was Steven Hammond, who showed us a massive underground barbershop, complete with bright lights, mirrors, and chairs with barbers waiting for clients.

Steven had a large barber pole tattoo on his neck, and he told us about an upcoming art show happening there.

The manager, Michael “Big Mike” Saviello, proudly showed us his art studio in the back and showed us stunning pieces of iconic New York locations, celebrities and athletes.

And everywhere we looked we saw photographs of celebrities and their barbers including (famous Dutch soccer player) Edgar Davids.

We learned that Astor Place Hair Stylists is a 75-year-old NYC landmark. It was a great and unexpected experience, thanks to Steve and Mike.
